Famous Assam Laksa and Siam Laksa, Balik Pulau, Penang
By Sue Ann at September 29, 2010 | 8:00 am | 2 Comments
As part of our makan trip in Penang, we found ourselves in Balik Pulau in a shop called Nan Guang, eating Siam and Assam Laksa. As you can see from the stall, their assam laksa and siam laksa is famous as they’ve appeared in many publications (rasa- rasa) and newspaper articles. But what grabbed my attention the most was the price. Only RM2.50 a bowl!! In KL RM2.50 probably could only get you milo ais. Prices in KL are just so over-inflated. Looking at their preparations, I could tell that the ingredients that they used were very fresh. They had everything...

Ampang Homeland Yong Tau Foo
By Steve at September 19, 2010 | 12:16 am | 0 Comment
This week, we head into the deeper part of Ampang for Yong Tau Foo, and we ended up here at Ampang Homeland Yong Tau Foo. Here, we ordered a mix of yong tau foo. Each person has their own dipping dish of sweet brown sauce and a spicy sauce. I am a big fan of the bittergourd and fish paste and always must have it when I go for yong tau foo. Posted up on the wall was a tempting picture of their pandan wrapped chicken wings. It was not too bad, but nothing particularly to shout about. To mix things up, we also ordered a plate of pork with preserved...
Restaurant Yew Kei, Tanjung Tualang, Perak
By Sue Ann at September 15, 2010 | 8:00 am | 0 Comment
Over the Merdeka weekend, we took a drive down to Tanjung Tualang in Perak to have a go at their famous seafood restaurants they have in that area. Little did we know that this town was so far off the beaten track. Even on our GPS, it only showed a single road, with grey space around it. That’s how far off it was. But, I must tell you it is worth the time. There are actually quite a few number of famous seafood restaurants in this town, but earlier this year a whole stretch of restaurants were burnt down including the famous Luen Fong and Sun Mee Fong. But...
Laomazis Home Cooked Dishes along Jalan Ipoh Kuala Lumpur
By Steve at September 12, 2010 | 12:35 am | 1 Comments
Want to have home cooked food and yet lazy to cook something up? Well, fret not. Laomazis is the place for a great variety of dishes of which, you may not find at other places. It's a simple restaurant that prepares interesting and flavourful goodies. The menu on the board does not show all the dishes they can cook up so it's best to ask them to recommend their specialties and favourites. We had a soup in claypot of chinese wine, ginger and fried egg. It had a nice strong taste which goes well with a bowl of rice. This is something that I enjoyed a...
Steak at Prime – Le Meridien Hotel Kuala Lumpur
By Steve at September 5, 2010 | 12:09 am | 4 Comments
Being the carnivores that we are, we just can't resist a good steak. We've heard much about the steaks here so for this dinner, we made a trip to Prime at Le Meridien. It is a fine setting with bright lights above that shine like starts in the sky. The large seats are plush and very comfortable, although it does feel like a fit for a giant. The wood finishes add a nice touch to the ambiance of the restaurant with it's prompt service. To start things off, you are served a plate of warm bread. Interestingly enough, they also serve it with their homemade...
For Goodness Sake, Bangsar Village 2, Bangsar
By Sue Ann at September 1, 2010 | 8:00 am | 3 Comments
I love this restaurant’s name. Whoever thought about the name must be a genius. It’s actual name is ‘For Goodness Sake its a noodle bar’ so you can roughly tell what kind of food awaits you. This restaurant is actually an izakaya, roughly translated, Japanese drinking establishment which also serves food’. You can find their menu on the wall by the entrance. Its not your typical Japanese restaurant with your usual set menus but a more ala carte type of Japanese restaurant. You get to sample a different variety of Japanese food like robatayaki as...
Restoran Leong Ya (Yong Tau Foo) – Balakong, Seri Kembangan
By Steve at August 29, 2010 | 12:11 am | 0 Comment
Restoran Leong Ya can be found nearby the Mines Shopping Centre and not only serves Yong Tau Foo, but a variety of other dishes as well. If you drive just one minute away, you would also find the same branch in the same area. Guess business is just that good. Anyways, here is what we had for lunch. In a thick, and lightly sweet sauce, was a plate full of tofu, fish cakes, stuffed chilies and other goodies. The speciality here which we do particularly enjoy is the Chee Bao Gai or Paper Wrapped Chicken. Hidden inside the layers of paper is chicken...
