I’m sure most people driving within the Uptown square won’t miss this sign. The little sumo wrestler holding up a bowl of something hot and yummy. Well, after cracking our head on where to eat one night we decided to give this place a go.
Its a very nice cozy interior with a Teppanyaki grill just at the entrance. We had quite a few dishes that night. Our orders below.
Ko Ebi Karaage
Nabeyaki Ramen
Tendon set
Kamo Terriyaki set
Spider roll
The Ko Ebi Karaage was surprisingly very tasty. And they were quite generous with it too. It came in a very deep bowl, and it was filled to the brim. Its basically deep fried shrimp and because it was deep fried it made everything edible including the shell. But make sure you chew properly, you don’t want shrimp shells stuck in between your teeth.
The spider roll was pretty average. I wish they would have put avocado in it instead of cucumbers. But it was alright.
One thing that did catch my eye on the menu was the duck terriyaki set. This is the first time I’ve seen duck terriyaki, let alone duck served in a Japanese restaurant. So since my dad is an avid duck meat lover, he went for that without much thought. The set was pretty reasonable seeing that it came with chawan mushi (steamed egg), some sushi rolls, miso soup, pickles, rice and fruit. I think it was a good deal. But back to the duck, look at the close up, it looks like char siew doesn’t it? It tasted really good. Because it was duck, the texture was abit more firm as compared to chicken , but it was very well flavoured, I think the texture of the duck helped absorb the sauce better. Plus, it was thinly sliced so it was very easy to eat. Definitely will get this again next time I’m here.
The tendon set was also pretty average. You can request for all prawn tempura or all vege tempura. But remember to always check the price before you do that as they tend to increase the price when you request for all prawn tempura.
The last was the Nabeyaki Ramen. I didn’t quite like this dish, as it came out to be abit too salty to me. But hey, what do you expect when the soup is soy sauce based. It was alright, with the noodles reminding me very much of maggi mee. I think udon always goes better with this dish.
They also serve Japanese porrdige, called Zosui. Not sure how much different it is from our usual chinese poridge as I didn’t get to try it.
