Recently, we brought our friend Anselm who’s just gotten back from Germany to have a good chinese style dinner at Magic Wok.
This restaurant is famed for many dishes and playing host, we wanted to impress our friend. Hence, we ordered some of their specialities which we have listed below. But since there were only 3 of us, we could only order so much.
Our orders that night was :-
Magic Wok Special Yuen Tai (Speciality) RM25
Tau fu with abalone slices (Speciality) RM 12
Twin style Kai lan (Speciality) RM12
As you can see for yourself, the Yuen Tain Special looks so good with all its shining glory. Yuen Tai as I’ve come to learn is actually the thigh area of the pig. It has a very thick fat layer over it, but the meat inside is very tender. This dish comes with a side of steamed buns, in which you can dip in the sauce. Delicious. They will actually help cut the pork for you into bite size pieces so its easier for you to savour the taste. The sauce was sweet, if I remembered correctly, there was a hint of cinnamon?? but i’m not sure. It was very yummy.
Next up, our tau fu dish which came with slices of abalone. (Well, I don’t think this was real abalone cause of the price, but it sure tasted like the real thing). I personally really liked this dish cause the tau fu was very soft and the sauce was very tasty. Not to mention the abalone, which I probably ate the most out of the 3 people there that night.
For our source of fibre that night, we opted for kai lan. The reason why this dish was called twin style is because the same vegetable is done in two different cooking styles. The stalks are done the usual way which is ‘cheng chau’ lightly fried in oil. While the leaf was shredded into tiny shreds and deep fried so it gave it a very crunchy feel. Almost like eating vegetable chips. Yum.
One thing I must definitely mention about this restaurant is that the service they gave that day was impeccable. I was down with a slight cold that night, and the staff was so considerate, they actually asked whether I was cold and then turned down the fan. They also brought me a big mug of warm water to make me feel better. How good is that? And I did..with the food, warm hospitality how couldn’t I?
This is a great place for family dinners and also to show off to your visiting friends traditional chinese cooking. The food is consistent and gets a thumbs up.

mmmm Chinese food good. Yet it was the guest who payed instead of the hosts.
thumbs up ***/5
but my wallet wasn’t so happy.

it was less than 20 euros in total… not so bad considering how much you usually pay for food in Europe right?
and it was rental charge for staying at my place. haha. you may charge the same rent if we ever head to Kuching.

Now there is a reason for you to stop by this place as we have officially ‘reviewed’ it..haha. But its a good choice to go for family dinners or just a simple meal because the food there is good and is consistent. And also the roast duck is a crowd favourite ..;)
