Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., The Curve

It’s pretty hard to miss the gigantic neon sign for Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. whenever you’re at The Curve. Just walk down the street and you’ll see it flashing red and blue on the 1st floor.
Just like flies being attracted to those UV lamps you find in restaurants, me, Sue Ann and my family went to Bubba Gump to give it a try.
The restaurant is themed based on the Forrest Gump movie, starring Tom Hanks so you’ll see alot of Forrest Gump memorabilia around. To get the waiters to stop and serve you, they ask you to use the signboards above. ‘Run Forrest Run’ means keep doing what you’re doing, ‘Stop Forrest Stop’ means come and serve us.
Different huh?
My parents ordered two alcoholic beverages called Sunburst and Peach, Love, Rock and Roll.
While I had a Run Forest Run and my brother had a blueberry smoothy. Our drinks were really thick, almost like drinking ice cream, which is what you want in a smoothy.
For the appetizer, we ordered a small Cesar salad, which was made with a kind of vinegerette instead of the typical Cesar dressing and a shrimp and salsa ‘cocktail’.
It consists of plain nachos with a prawn dip. They named it ‘cocktail’ because the ingredients for the dip come separately and one of the waiters will come to your table and mix it altogether in a martini mixer.
This dish was addictive. Although it had quite a lot of lemon in it, you just wanted to dip and eat more and more, regardless of how sour it was. The salsa style ingredients like tomato, onions and avocado helped too.
I got myself the Dumb Luck coconut shrimp, which was basically fried shrimp which had been battered in coconut flakes and some other herbs. It was served with a sweet dipping sauce, coleslaw and chips.
Sue Ann got a Bourban street barumundi, served with potato and pumpkin mash and some side vegetables. The fish was nice a meaty, which I like on fish steaks, and the serving size was pretty big as well.
My mum had a New York strip steak, which suprisnigly was done well. I’ve found that steak is not done that well in quite a few restaurants in Malaysia, where they over cook the meat or the meat just isn’t all that tender. But they had cooked my mum’s steak just right.
Lastly, my brother had the BBQ beef back ribs, which was served with a BBQ dipping sauce, coleslaw and home made fries. The ribs were already taken off the bone, so all the meat you see in the picture is all meat.
It was soft and tender and by the end of the meal, way too filling. I guess we over ordered as usual…
All in all the bill came to RM325.45 for 5 of us, which isn’t too different from other similar Western style restaurants like this place. It didn’t help that my parent’s drinks (alcoholic drinks) were the price of a small meal each. But they paid, so oh well…
