Delucca – An Evening of Homemade Pasta and Live Music in the Heart of Kuala Lumpur
Recently celebrating a friend’s birthday, we had all decided to indulge in some Italian food, wine, and music all in one night.
The interior has a warm feel to it and you see a mix of families, couples and friends enjoying the night.
To start the night off, you get a nice plate of bread while you wait for the food to arrive
We decided to share the starters (as well as the mains) so that we all could get a taste of the different dishes. The Insalata di pollo is a roasted chicken salad with half-boiled egg, tomato, spring onion, cucumber with creamy parmesan dressing. It reminds me of a Caesar salad more than anything else.
Another starter that we had was the vongole con erbe aromatiche, or more easily understood: clams sauteed in oil with garlic and white dry wine served with garlic crostini. I thought the clams were nothing out of the ordinary, thumbs up for the presentation in a pan though.
As for the pasta, we were told that a selection of the pasta was homemade, including this, the Pappardelle dello chef. This is one of the chef recommendations. It is a broad pasta with Italian dry beef bresaola tossed with fresh herbs, white beans, and gorgonzola sauce. Only complaint that I have is that I wish there was more of it to savour.
Another recommendation is the Marea nera, a squid ink tagliatelle with mixed seafood in a vodka cream sauce.
Now, we can’t go all out with pasta, so we also decided to try their Fiorentina, T-bone steak which was tastefully done. They did not mention the price of it on the menu, but when it came out, it was a whopping RM82.
The funghi porcini risotto was cooked in white wine with button porcini mushrooms and topped with grana cheese. I found the risotto a little too al dente for my liking.
Here at Delucca, they serve Calzones, or folded pizzas. So we thought we’d give it a try with the Delucca Special. Tucked inside the pastry is mozzarella, mushrooms, sundried tomato, beef salami, artichokes, and gorgonzola cheese. I wasn’t a very big fan of it, but maybe it’s because I haven’t tried many Calzones.
Now on to desserts. An interesting choice is the Rum baba which has bite size sponge soaked in rich rum, served with mini fruit salad and vanilla ice cream. Definitely something different which would be hard to find on other dessert menus.
I liked the peach upsidedown cake, which some may find rather sweet. Always good to share though!
And of course, to round the night off, these guys were awesome. Love the music to end the night.

After a long day at the office, I decided to splurge a bit to blow off some steam. So I decided to head on down to Pasta Zanmai Japanese Restaurant at 1 Utama for a nice good dinner. William came along too as he has been wanting to try this place as well.

Pasta Zanmai is a chain of restaurants owned by a company called supersushi. It has a sister restaurant also in 1 Utama called Sushi Zanmai which sells the usual fare of Japanese food such as sushi (duh), Tempura, Sashimi, Teppanyaki..you get what I mean. (more…)
