Nasi Lemak and Nasi Bojari at Madam Kwan’s at Mid Valley
A friend from overseas made a recent trip to Kuala Lumpur and thinking of where to take him for our local cuisine whilst not overwhelming him straight away with the local street fare, Madam Kwan’s came into mind. Now established with several outlets across the Klang Valley, Madam Kwan’s serves up delectable local and international delights. On this night, we had local cuisine in mind.
Let’s start things off with the Nasi Bojari. This is their signature dish which is also found in Indonesia. The serving is decent and the coloured rice is complimented by assam prawns and shredded beef rendang or chicken rendang, both yummy. You also get a nice crispy fried chicken to go along with the meal. If you are spoilt for choice, then we would recommend you try this.
Now with the nasi lemak. Another must-try while you are here. As you can see, it is just oozing with flavoursome curry and it sure does settle in your stomach well. This make for a good meal whether it is for lunch or for dinner.

The Yogitree at Gardens Mid Valley
Recently, we visited the Yogitree which has touted itself as a “real” food cafe and yoga boutique. Food here is fresh and it’s all about being natural and organic. The Yogitree is situated in the Gardens and also opens for dinner which is something I would try as well. However, for this trip, we decided to go with something lighter for lunch, sandwiches. Besides selling nutritious organic food, the Yogitree also has a retail section that sells yoga equipment and clothes.
This is their Duck and Pear Salad with organic Toasted Black sesame. With a dressing of sesame oil, the salad has an interesting mix of flavours. The pear from the salad provides that sweetness which is nicely balanced by the flavours of the strips of tender duck.
Something to try here would be the Steak sandwich with chilled Australian grain fed beef. Complementing the beef is caramelised onions, watercress, horseradish cream and mustard. For a sandwich, RM27 is rather steep, but to make up for it, you get very fresh ingredients.
The Carrot and Orange Cake is topped with cream cheese frosting. This is just one of the many ways to end the meal. They also have a range of other desserts such as cheesecakes and hot chocolate pudding.
