Jalan Alor remains!!!
Jalan Alor has been renamed Jalan Alor again! Huh?
As you know from our previous post about the renaming of Jalan Alor to Jalan Kejora and now back to Jalan Alor again, it seems as if the famous road will remain as it is.
KUALA LUMPUR: Jalan Alor will keep its name – that’s the decision of Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Zulhasnan Rafique.
It is understood that the decision was made by him after listening to feedback from the public and City Hall following the uproar over the name change of the world-renowned street to Jalan Kejora.
Sources said the minister had taken into account the views of both sides before making the decision. [The Star Online]
Hopefully the decision remains final this time and the uncle with the beef noodle shop can forever more be referred to as the Jalan Alor Beef Noodle shop.
Although I still think Jalan The Big Dipper or Jalan Brad Pitt would have been better.
Oh well.
Jalan Alor Has Been Renamed! Jalan Kejora???
Sources from a couple of blogs have revealed that Jalan Alor has been renamed to Jalan Kejora. The reason given by DBKL is as follows:
“…Jalan Alor’s name was changed at the request of the National Economic Action Council following decisions made in its exco meeting. With regard to that, DBKL’s Road Naming Committee concluded in its meeting that the name of Jalan Alor be changed to Jalan Kejora to go with other roads in the vicinity named after the stars….”
Is that really a good enough reason to rename a street? Then they can decide to rename the entire area after wildlife, states, basically whatever they wish. Imagine KL city centre having all the roads named, Jalan Penang, Jalan Pahang, Jalan Wilayah Pereketuan, Jalan Selangor, Jalan Johor etc…
I wonder how business will be for the uncle who sells that wonderfull beef noodles on the corner of Jalan Alor Jalan Kejora? I wonder if less people will go there because they can’t say the name of his street or just don’t remember it at all.
Oh well, only time will tell. I’m still hoping that they change their mind and rename it ‘Jalan The Big Dipper’. Stars right?
