Kura Japanese Restaurant, 1 Utama, Bandar Utama
Everytime we have an occasion to celebrate, be it a birthday, anniversary, reunion and we feel like Japanese and feel like spurging abit, we head on down to Kura Japanese Restaurant in One World Hotel.
We love coming here because we know the quality of food we are getting is top notch. Everytime we go there we are never disappointed by the quality of food or the service. Plus, I personally like the ambience. Once we set foot in the restaurant we are greeted by all the staff including the chefs as we make our way to our seats. It feels like we are coming home.
Most of the time when we eat here we go for the set dinners because its value for money. All the sets comes with a salad, chawan mushi ( steamed egg), appetizer, main meal, miso soup and dessert. The sets range approximately from RM25 to RM80. And they are generous with their servings. The most expensive sets are big enough to serve 2 people.
Our orders that night include
Zakuro Chirashi Zen RM35
Yakiniku ZenĀ RM42
Sushi and Tempura Zen RM48
As usual, whenever I eat at a Japanese joint I will order the meal with the most sashimi. In this case it was the Chirashi zen set, it is basically was a giant bowl of sushi, topped with all the sashimi I can get. It had salmon, tuna, mackerel, butterfish, prawns, squid…mmmm. You get the picture right? The starter that night was Japanese tofu, which was really soft that almost melts in your mouth. Delicious.
My cousin ordered the sushi and tempura set, and you can see how much they gave. Seven pieces of sushi with thick slices of fish and a big plate of tempura, together with rice and steamed egg. She was struggling to finish this. But it was really good. Everything was very fresh.
My dad ordered the Yakiniku Beef set. Yakiniku in Japanese basically means grilled meat. The beef was done perfectly. It was very very tender , thats all that needs to be said.
As usual, we walked away from Kura feeling ’stuffed’ but contented. A good meal all in all. Writing it makes me want to go back again. Lets see when the next occasion coming up…..

Ribs, Oasis Complex, Bandar Utama
A small group of us went to this restaurant on New Year’s Eve 2008 for dinner. It will probably suprise you, but Ribs is located near the school opposite the One Utama driving range. Bet you didn’t know there was a row of shop lots there right?
Their speciality is ribs, just as their restaurant name would suggest and the shop is actually quite new, less than 1 year old. I first came to know about it through my cousin, as his friend owns and runs the restaurant with his wife.
For starters, we ordered a cesar’s salad, a ham and pea soup and a mushroom soup. Both of the soups were nice and creamy, but needed just a bit more salt. They are both made fresh in the kitchen (no canned soup nonsense) so you can really taste the mushrooms and the ham, peas and potatos in both soups.
Unfortunately, the salad was not as good as I’ve had it before, with the crutons being a bit burnt when it was given to us. I told the owner and he apologised as it was new year’s eve and they had a recent reshuffling of kitchen staff, so some of them are getting used to their new jobs.
I had the BBQ ribs, which were served with roast potatoes and I quite liked the taste. The ribs at Ribs always come out very tender, with the meat falling off the bone and the flavor going quite deep into the meat. The BBQ ribs are their house speciality.
My friend Stan (from Bake With Stan fame), ordred the Italian style ribs, which I must admit I preffered over my BBQ ribs. The taste was more basic, with a more salt and pepper savoury taste to it, which I guess on the night I had more of a craving for. It reminded me of the ribs my friend’s mum (she’s argentinian) used to make for me and him when we were kids.
Sue Ann ordered the lamb shank, which was served on garlic mash. Sue Ann said it had a slight gamey taste, which I must admit I couldn’t really taste over the flavour of the sauce.
Usually we’d order the apple crumble with Haagen Dazs ice cream (only RM9) which is probably the price of the scoop of ice cream itself. But that night we were really full. But the last time I had it it was great, I would recommend you trying it for yourself.
We later found out that they were throwing a NYE party on the roof of the establishment, hence the slightly rushed quality of the food. We went up to have a look and ended up watching the countdown fireworks from there as it was an ideal location to see them from both the Curve and 1 Utama at the same time.
I’d never seen fireworks so close at hand before. It was great.

Gym membership @ One World Hotel, Bandar Utama
We have begun to feel the after effects of excessive gluttony. We’ve been eating week after week just so that we’ll have something to put on our blog. Its not good for our health. The sickly feeling of eating too much and also the thought of fat growing while you sit at office for 8 hours after eating a heavy meal and knowing you have another dinner to attend after work. The reality hits hard when that new pair of jeans you bought a few months back starts to feel a bit too tight at the waist. The signs are all there, we need to hit the gym.
I found this gym months ago and I really think its a bargain. This is the gym at One world hotel at Bandar Utama. This gym is not only limited to the hotel guests but also to the general public for a reasonable fee. At only RM100 a month, you can have access to the gym, swimming pool, steam room and sauna. Sounds too good to be true right? Normally for a gym membership outside it will cost you at least RM150 and that is without a pool.
So, for those who are interested, they are still accepting members. They even have weekly yoga classes on every Tuesday at 6pm ( Luckily they did not ban yoga). The equipment at the gym is top notch and up to standard. Heck, the treadmill even comes equipped with a television and built in fans to give you that ‘natural’ wind as if you were running in the park (with a tv strapped in front of you). It is definitely enough for those who want to stay fit and tone up.
I’ve attached the brochure above for easy reference. For more info, to see how the gym is like, you may also visit the One World Hotel website. Just click on the link below. Good luck on your decision and make sure once you decide, you stick to it.

Panadero Bakery – Centrepoint, Bandar Utama
Tucked in a little corner in centrepoint is this cozy little bakery called ‘Panadero Bakery’ which I frequent everytime I drop by centrepoint. Small as it may seem this bakery serves up a wide variety of buns, croissants, breads, cookies ,cakes and even nasi lemak and bihun goreng which could even give bread story a run for its money.
Ok, maybe not breadstory , but it does have a good selection of yummy wholesome goodies. They even sell wholemeal croissonts . And need I mention that it’s baked fresh daily?
One of the perks of this bakery is the various discounts you can get . Come in anytime after 9pm and its ‘bake off’ time where you’ll get a 50% discount off all the items on the rack. Not bad right? Plus for senior citizens (55 yrs and above ) you are entitled for a 10% discount off the bill and the same goes for college students. Just flash your student card to save money.
Another benefit for you students is also the lepak hour where for 2.00 ringgit you can get 1/2 a mug of coffee. (I’m assuming it should be a relatively big mug..)
Anyway, if you are ever in centre point , do pay this little bakery a visit. Its well worth your money and it fills ur tummy.
