Restoran Ahwa – Hokkien Mee @ Jalan 222, Petaling Jaya
Restoran Ahwa has become famous for its hokkien mee and with several other stalls available, this makes for a good place for dinner or supper. However, besides the hokkien mee, I was able to sample quite a few of the food from the other stalls available. The lor bak (consisting of marinated mince pork in thin soyabean sheets, then deep fried) was a good starter with the chilli sauce.
We also ordered a plate of lala (clams) which were fried reasonably well.
In Restaurant Ahwa, you will also find other varities of food such as shown below. The stingray is doused in lime juice and can be dipped in an onion chilli mix sauce.
The same shop that does the hokkien mee also cooks up loh mee, which typically goes well with a splash of vinegar. For those who are unaware, loh mee typically consists of egg noodles in broth thickened with corn starch and beaten eggs. Some other ingredients also include meat slices and bean sprouts.
As for the main dish, my favourite, hokkien mee hoon. The thing I like most is that even on a busy day when the place is packed with people, the noodles have consistently been of a certain standard.
As you can see, the hokkien mee is filled with pork lard fritters which enhances the flavours of the dish. Also, it can be accompanied with chilli sauce.
