We finally made a trip to Tropicana city not too long ago, in search for food.and we stumbled upon this Japanese Restaurant Sushi Tei hidden near the far end of the shopping centre.
The exterior looked inviting enough, and we were up for Jap food, so we thought why not. The set up reminded me very much of Sushi Zanmai in 1 Utama.
Our order that night was: -
Curry Rice RM12.80
Nabeyaki Udon RM15.80
Maguro Natto RM4.80
Goma Ice Cream RM6
Nothing ambitious that day, as we just wanted a simple Japanese dinner. The interior was very nicely done up with an open kitchen concept. In fact, the sushi chef was just standing above us.
First up was our Maguro Natto, which was sashimi tuna with natto ( fermented soy beans). You need to have an acquired taste to eat this because the fermented soy beans have a pretty funky taste and smell and its really slimy and gooey. Natto is a rich source of protein and is usually eaten during breakfast in Japan. Interesting…hmm.
I wanted something light, so I opted for the Nabeyaki Udon, which was pretty tempura with Udon. I remember the broth was very tasty and it was nice to have something other than sashimi at a Japanese restaurant.
William ordered the curry rice. We’ve always loved Japanese curry cause of its sweet taste. Its like eating it in thick sweet sauce which is slightly spicy. You can make your own Jap curry buy buying the jap curry paste. Some curries come in a cube form where you just add it to boiling water. I like the Japanese apple curry, cause of the extra sweetness.
Anyway, back to the meal. This dish was just average, with lots of carrots and potatoes as you can see.
Lastly is our goma ice cream. We paid 6 bucks for this one scoop of ice cream, but luckily it lived up to its standards. The ice cream was rich in flavour and texture. It was like eating frozen black sesame paste/cream.
Well if you are in Tropicana city, and are looking for a decent Jap place to eat, give sushi tei a try

But the Mid Valley outlet’s suck! I just went yesterday. The prawns were out from frozen (not well unfrozen), and the udon weren’t well cook and are pretty hard.
