Calling all pork lovers!! Yes, you heard right, Sanbanto cafe in SS2 caters to the pork lovers tastebuds, serving ONLY pork at this humble little place. Not jus any normal pork, but premium pork for that matter which is hormone free. How do we know this? Because we were lucky enough to be invited for a food tasting to this cafe one night, and we had a good chat with the owner Becky on matters strictly pork.
This family owned restaurant opened not long ago. This cafe not only serves food, but also doubles up as butchery. The front of their shop is a meat display area, where you can get different cuts of pork.
The pork is delicately cut in a cold room at the back which is maintained at a temperature of 0-4C which keeps it fresh and prevents them from smell. Its so cold that you have to wear a jacket while inside as you can see from the picture.
After settling down, we were served the first dish which was a starter. We were given a pork belly salad which was absolutely delicious. Imagine this, deep fried pork belly on a bed of vegetables, lettuce, onions, cherry tomatoes and capsicum. The different texture the pork belly brought to the dish was very unique. The pork belly was very tasty and well flavoured and also crunchy whilst the honey mustard dressing gave it the right succint sweetness to the dish blending it all in together. We loved this.
Next up we had the Portebello mushroom pork burger which came with a small side salad and fries. The burger itself comprised of portebello mushrooms, bacon strips, cheese and of course the pork patty which was all 100% made in Sanbanto. The patty here is individual to this cafe because it slightly less fatty. The normal patty fat ratio outside is probably around 50%, but in Sanbanto, they maintained a ration of 20-30% fat. I personally loved this burger because of all the meaty flavours blended in together, but William still had a preference to beef patty. But food always boils down to personal preference anyway
This dish, ‘Bolognaise Papadelle’ is one of their signature dishes. We were pretty impressed, because, it is very hard to find a restaurant serving papadelle. The only other place I know of so far would be ‘Delicious cafe’. Papadelle is a type of pasta, something like fettucine but its very much wider. Its like really fat fettucine. The bolognaise sauce was made from mince pork (Duh) and topped with some deep fried jui yau za aka deep fried pork fat. Sinful ain’t it. But darn good. The taste and the crunchy texture of the jui yau za just tasted heavenly.
We also got to sample something off the menu. This Oriental Style Braised Pork dish comes with a serve of rice and will be added to their existing menu soon, bringing an asian flavour into the mix. Looking very presentatble we savoured this dish because the pork was very fresh and practically falling off the bone. The skin of the pork was so tasty, probably because of the fat (sin) and the sauce was very light. So something for those to consider if they don’t wish to have western.
Lastly, there’s always space for desserts. We had Panna Cotta with Strawberry Syrup and a concoction of mangoes with honey, mint and pistachio. Eating it was delightful, the mango and the mint bringing a very refreshing taste to the mix. The panna cotta was very light and smooth. Enjoyed it very much.
We also had some banana and chocolate milkshake which was also soon to be on the menu. LOok at that, its so pretty. Banana, chocolate, vanilla ice cream and milk…OooooOo.. I could have this after every meal.
Sanbanto also offers english roast on weekends which we will try one of the days because how often do you get english roast here in M’sia. Very nice place, perfect if you want to just pork out. You won’t miss this place because you’ll see this poster in front of their shop. Its on the same row as KTZ in SS2.

For me, yup great marks for the pork rib especially its two-layer pork.
Burger: pork kinda salty for me
Overall food: Try it
Service is bad: The cashier is rude, blacky face. (name:Jennifxx). When everyone was eating, she hand out a bill and say with a stone tone “we going close our cashier thank you”. 9.30pm, another waitress fold her apron n head scarf in front of all customers, chef are sweeping the floor, messy hair and sweaty and dirty look pass by you reminding you they are close
