Dear all, we are sad to announce that Claypot Brothers has officially been CLOSED. Do take note. Thanks!
Claypot Brothers is well known among those living in Tmn Tun, with its signature dishes, cooked in claypots outside the restaurant. Serving up a variety of Hong Kong / Teochew style dishes, you will never tire from the selection they have to offer you.
This restaurant is run by a Hong Kong family who moved to KL many years ago. They first started in Damansara Uptown opening Tasty Tasty, offering authentic Hong Kong food, which was indeed TASTY TASTY!
A group of us decided to pay this place a visit, especially since Rhe, who is one of our close friends also happened to be the daughter of owners of this restaurant . Boy did we have a feast that night.
On the menu
Prawn Toast **
Ou Chien
Crystal Chicken **
Jade Tofu **
Spare Ribs in Pepper Sauce
Pork Belly with Chinese Cabbage
Crabmeat Yee Mee in Pumpkin Sauce **
Hong Kong Style Beef Brisket in Clear Soup
Ounee (dessert)
* Pre order required
To start off the feast, the first to arrive was the crowd favourite, Prawn Toast! Its a succulent prawn on a piece of bread and deep fried till crispy ( I know I know..high in cholestrol, but we ought to indulge once in awhile right? LoL). We loved this, and we were deliberating who will finish the last piece, which eventually went to William.
Next up was Ou Chien aka oyster omellete topped with a sprinkling of spring onions. This went down pretty quick as well among us, as we all were also quite hungry.
The Jade Chicken, is one of their house specialties. Its steamed chicken, which came in a nice thick sauce. Doesn’t it look appetizing? We all noted that the meat was very nice and tender and the flavour of the sauce was actually in the meat.
Jade Tofu is another house specialty. This came in a huge flat bowl and we were instantly very curious to know what it was cause of its green broth. The chef came to explain to us that this is one of his creations, The broth was made from spinach (very healthy
hence the green colour and had chopped tofu and prawns.
This very colourful dish was spare ribs in pepper sauce. You must be wondering where is the sauce right? Well, the ribs were marinated in the pepper sauce before being fried. Hence it has a spicy peppery taste to it when you bite in, so be prepared for that little kick!
The Pork belly with chinese cabbage was a very light dish. It gave us a break from all the richness from the dishes before. The pork belly reminded me of bacon..oh wait..it is bacon..:)
This is Crabmeat yee mee in pumpkin sauce. This was so good. I personally loved this dish, and if only I had more space in my stomach I would have gone for seconds. The sauce is a rich pumpkin broth and the crabmeat thrown in gave an extra sweetness to the whole dish. Very delicious..I want a bowl now even as I’m writing.
The beef brisket in clear soup which was downed very quickly as well. Seems like everyone at the table was a fan of beef brisket .They were very generous on the brisket and tendons as you can see. Niceee…
Lastly for desserts me and William shared this dish called Ounee, which is a teochew style dessert. It is actually pumpkin and taro paste topped with gingko nuts and is served warm. This is an acquired taste, as some people can find the paste texture abit too thick for their liking, but for myself, I quite liked this dessert especially the pumpkin paste. It was very sweet which was something I needed after all the food we ate.
Lastly, I must recommend this drink ‘A drop of GOLD’ (especially on a hot day). Its a mango drink with pamelo at the bottom and topped with diced mangoes at the top. Truly refreshing. A must try!
Thanks Rhe for hosting us and providing such a wide selection for us to eat. We all practically waddled away that night since we were so full we could barely stand. LoL!
