Rakuzen Japanese Restaurant, Sri Hartamas

With Rakuzen opening a branch in Sri Hartamas, we decided to give it a try. They do have other branches in the city and in Subang, but this was the closest to drive to.

The decor has a very warm and modern feel, whilst maintaining a Japanese style to it all. Some of the tables are segmented by hanging sheets or dividers to give more privacy.

This, however, is not a blog about interior design. So lets move on to the food! For starters, we begin with the Spider Roll. A delightful sushi roll which centres around a portion of soft-shelled crab. The outer layer of the roll is coated in Flying-fish roe.

Next up, cha soba (cold green tea buckwheat noodles). This was definitely a generous portion of cha soba which was complimented with dipping sauce that is hidden underneath the quail egg and seaweed. The noodles, however, were abit on the dry side.

The Tempura Moriawase is a mix tempura of vegetables and prawns. The fresh ingredients made this a delightful dish.

Another appetizer includes the Hotate Mentaimayo Yaki which are baked scallops.

For the mains, we managed to sample two sets. Firstly, the chicken katsu, always a favourite.

Secondly, the Sashimi to Yakizakana Zen set. This includes two pieces of grilled fish accompanied by sashimi, deep fried shrimp, miso soup, cawan mushi and others. They were quite generous, providing thick slices of sashimi. Grilling and the light seasoning brought out the true taste of the fish.

As always, there was room for dessert, but after such a heavy meal, we decided to go light on desserts and try the variety of ice creams.

With many other dishes yet to be tasted, there will definitely be a return visit.

Really nice food blog your have here. Rakuzen is a pretty modern kinda Jap restaurant. It’s very vibrant in color and food it’s pretty ok and price pretty reasonable. I’ve makan the one @ Chulan Square (in front of Pavilion). Their scallops are really good..

I’ve got one jap restaurant to recommend you. It’s at equatorial KL. restaurant name: Kampachi. Most of the food there are freshly made. Hand made soba, freshly imported salmon, and their unagi is beautifully cooked. Most importantly their waitress really do know how to recommend what do you want to eat without looking at the complicating menu.

I haven’t been to the one @ Pavilion KL, They have a whole different menu and it’s more contemp. jap restaurant. Will visit Fukuya (from one of your earlier post) somewhere this week =)

    Keep writing,

    Tq

Hi Demsi, Thanks for your comment.

Yea we will defintely try Kampachi soon ( we are avid jap food ppl). I’ve heard of it, and even eaten there before a few years back, so it is about time to go pay them another visit . If i’m not mistaken they still have their weekend buffets on? will need to find out more.

You will know soon, when we go there. =) And while u are at Fukuya, remember to ask for their Lavender ice cream, they were out the last time we were there. But its quite good and came highly recommended by our friend.

    Good luck!

    Hey Demsi!

Thanks for visiting the blog… and thanks for the suggestions on where to eat next.

We’ve actually eaten at Kura before a couple of times (it’s pretty near my house after all) but I haven’t gotten around to posting the pictures of it yet.

It’s quite a nice place to eat, especially with their daily ‘set dinners’ which can save you quite a bit.

But we’ll write more about that in our post…

    thx!

Nice choice of dishes I must say! Chicken Katsu is one of my normal orders too.

Next time you’re heading to Rakuzen again, you should try the Dragon Roll (not sure if you need to pre-order. Mine had to be done so.) It’s their specialty according to some food reviews. I’ve tried it personally and I dare say it’s that one dish you should try at least once.

    Keep it up! :)
