After a long day at the office, I decided to splurge a bit to blow off some steam. So I decided to head on down to Pasta Zanmai Japanese Restaurant at 1 Utama for a nice good dinner. William came along too as he has been wanting to try this place as well.
Pasta Zanmai is a chain of restaurants owned by a company called supersushi. It has a sister restaurant also in 1 Utama called Sushi Zanmai which sells the usual fare of Japanese food such as sushi (duh), Tempura, Sashimi, Teppanyaki..you get what I mean.
But Pasta Zanmai is Japanese food with a twist. Its Japanese Pasta. They not only sell pastas but have versions of Japanese pizzas as well which will definitely try next time we are back. They also run a Japanaese provision shop at the entrance of the restaurant selling lots of Japanese goodies.
Orders that night were:
Ebi Tempura Pasta with Sesame Sauce (ala carte) RM26
Sirloin Steak Teriyaki Sauce RM30
Green Tea RM3
First up to arrive was my prawn tempura pasta. Mmm…good. I like the way they did this dish as they used a sesame based sauce for the pasta. Very japanesey. They were generous on their prawns as well, giving us about 4 prawns.
And instead of topping off your pasta with parmesan cheese, we were given a small bowl of black sesame seeds in which we grind with a little pestle. Very unique and authentically Japanese. And it went really well with our pasta too. It added that little extra cruch and enhanced the already sesamey taste of the sauce.
The meat eater in William was at large again, and he ordered the Sirloin steak with terriyaki sauce. Even though we ordered medium rare, it still came out to be pretty rare to me personally. But it was very tender and you can tell they gave you good quality meat and not to mention it was quite a big chunk as well. He ordered the set, so with the set comes a bowl of rice, miso soup and a bowl of japanese salad. He devoured it hungrily.
And as all japanese rituals go, we always finish off a Japanese meal with non other than green tea. We would have gone for their tempting desserts but we were full from the meat and pasta.I love green tea, its so soothing and zen like. Even pouring it looks zen.
All in all, will definitely be back as they have such a wide range of variety to choose from their menu. One time is not enough. I want to try the pizzas the next time. Looks pretty interesting. Anyone tried it before? Let me know..=)

i had my dinner at zanmai last night (13 Apr 2011), ordered food at 8.12pm, waited for looooong time. My fren’s food came after 20min i guess, no tea served, until we reminded them (was after half an hour), then my food and sushi came only after 1 hour (9+pm), although i reminded them after my fren almost finish his food.
Lastly, they still dare to approach us to ask how was their service.
i almost wanted to tell them ” I WILL NOT COME TO THIS RESTAURANT ANYMORE!”
