Ole Ole Bali – Balinese Dining at Solaris Mont Kiara

Ole Ole Bali has two outlets, one at Sunway Pyramid and the other here, at Solaris Mont Kiara. The restaurant is Balinese-themed (of course) and has a warm ambiance.

At this outlet in Soho KL, they have long benches and comfy cushions outside by the roadside. Inside the restaurant, the mainly wooden theme is very laid back. Incorporating Balinese charms throughout, the setting is perfectly matched with good food. Besides Balinese cuisine, they also have a choice of Western dishes. However, this trip, we decided to give a few of the Balinese dishes a try.

First up is the Ole Ole Trio (RM38). This is a combination of Ole-Ole BBQ wings, Sate Lilit and Cumi-cumi goreng. This goes well as a main meal or also as a snack for those having a drink. As you can tell, the serving portions are pretty huge here, so you get what you pay for. The cumi-cumi (squid or sotong) goreng is addictive and you could also order it seperately as an entree (RM12) in which you get another large serving.

The Ayam Betutu (RM35) is a Balinese roast chicken with lemongrass marinade. We found that a lot of the side serves were similar throughout the Balinese dishes.

The Nasi Campur Ole-Ole has a mixture of grilled prawns, squid, fish, beef or chicken rendang, as well as a Sate Lilit. We went with the beef rendang (found it rather tough and chewy) and i especially liked the grilled fish. As with the Ole-Ole Trio, they have Sate Lilit which covers a stick of lemongrass. The lemongrass stick definitely adds a lot of flavour, but is also rather thick leaving a thin layer of meat to chew on. Considering that the service was rather prompt, the alluring ambiance, and the large servings, the price was definitely worth it.

Ayam Betutu is a national Balinese dish of sorts, if its gender is Itek. If its the same Betutu, ie Itek Betutu, it has been marinated with lots and I means lots of Balinese spices and herbs and smoked for at least 6 hours with ideally burning padi husks.

Btw, the original branch of this restaurant is in Puchong, called Bumbu Bali. A friend Janice mentioned it to me.

Not bad the food there. i just love indonesian and thai food also. there so many restaurants doing indonesian cuisine nowadays. there is one in palm square jaya one in section 17, called Brisik Restaurant. the ayam penyet is so much different from others. so spicy and nice. my favourite dish.

heyas sam, yea they have a couple of branches, one at Sunway Pyramid and this one in Solaris Mont Kiara. I’d recommend the Ole Ole Trio if you’re not too familiar what to try. The Sate Lilit is delicious. You could also order a jug of their barley lime to go with the food =) hope you have a good time out!

restaurants with high turnover usually don’t allow reservations during their peak time because people make reservations and don’t turn up on time or some don’t turn up at all which means that the restaurants very often have to turn away patrons because the tables are all “reserved”.
