Nagomi Shabu-Shabu – Hartamas Shopping Centre

Shabu-shabu is the Japanese variation of hot pot, whereby you cook thinly sliced meats in a hot soupy broth within seconds. Besides shabu-shabu, typical Japanese cuisine is also served. This is a great place especially if you have a group of friends to share different dishes. Nagomi has several outlets in Jaya 33, Menara Hap Seng, and this one in Hartamas Shopping Centre.

This is the interior and each table, as shown, has its own little hot pot. The only thing I did not quite particularly like about this place was the slow service, where we always had to seek the waiter’s attention who always did not seem to look our way.

The interior

For starters, we ordered several sushis such as the spider roll which consists of soft shelled crabs. Also, with fresh salmon sashimi. However, they were not too creative and used the same ingredients for both rolls. Even the dish looked more or less the same (except for the slab of salmon there of course).

We went to Nagomi on a Sunday night and there was a promotion for white bait whereby if you buy one dish, you get another free. However, for RM15, it was rather pricey for the small serving size. On other nights we did notice that they had the same offer but for other items on the menu.

White Bait

With each order of meat for the shabu-shabu, you also get a plate of fresh vegetables that include mushrooms, carrots, cabbage, tofu, noodles and others.

The beef ribeye shabu-shabu costs RM39. As for the chicken, it is RM10 less than the beef ribeye, but also has minced chicken and a raw egg, which, when cooked in the soup, will also enhance the it’s flavour.

Here, you get a variety of three different sauces; a vinegar-based sauce that goes well with the beef, a chili sauce, and a peanut-based sauce. After blanching the meat in the soup, you can be plain and simple and eat it without sauce or dip it in one of the sauces or be more adventurous and mix it up (I quite liked mixing the vinegar and peanut-based sauce for the beef).

Dipping Sauces

This would have been perfect on a cold winters night, but since we don’t have that here in Malaysia, the air-conditioning from the shopping mall will have to do. Overall, it was quite a tasty, healthy and wholesome meal.
