Mix Cafe, Phileo Damansara I, Petaling Jaya

This café was given life 10 years ago, when my aunty and uncle decided to open their café in Phileo. I guess they got tired of being bossed around at work, and decided to be their own bosses, hence the birth of Mix Café.

Yummy Yummy mix rice...So many varieties

Yummy Yummy mix rice...So many varieties

Mix café as its name suggests sells Mix rice (economy rice) and also ala carte meals ranging from Asian to Western. It is unlike any other coffee shop that serves economy rice but rather it is the neighbourhood (officehood) cafe with a clean, comfortable ambience and friendly service. Most of the patrons to the shop are those working around Phileo itself and is packed during the lunch hours.

It gets much busier than this. It was only 1130am..

The lunch crowd is trickling in..

Feedmelah decided to pay them a visit recently to sample some of their food. We went for their daily house specials which varies daily. On the menu that day (Friday) was their famous assam laksa and also hainanese chicken rice balls. Drinks (soya bean/sugar cane/ soft drinks) are also available for selected lunch specials.

The assam laksa, as always, never disappoints. It came generously served in a big bowl and is made fresh in front of you. The noodles are served in a nice thick broth coupled with generously sliced pineapples and cucumbers to give it the extra sweetness and topped with thick slices of ikan kembung and mint leaves. Eaten all together will definitely bring satisfaction to your tummy.

Next up, the hainanese chicken rice balls which comes with a side of tau geh ( a must with chicken rice) and a bowl of soup. Now you don’t have to drive all the way to Malacca for a good plate of chicken rice balls cause you can get it all here in PJ. Plus the chicken rice balls are much bigger than the ever shrinking chicken rice balls in Malacca. Chicken was tender and fresh and eaten together with the chilli, well, its as good as it gets. Delicious.

Also look out for their kuih keria (sweet potato donuts) which are made fresh daily. It a seller. Other must try house specials are the curry laksa, chikuteh, tomyam fried rice, ikan bakar and prawn mee.

They also deliver to the nearby offices during lunch hour to cater to the needs of those who are still being bossed around (no pun intended). So if you are working in Phileo Damansara and need a quick lunch but for some reason your boss won’t let you, give Mix a call and they’ll work something out (food wise).

** Delivery service of pre-ordered lunch packs to the office in Phileo Damanasara and Damansara Heights area (Minimum order of RM100) between 11am – 12:30pm. Further enquiries email [email protected] or call 016-2631135.
(Note: The menus hanging on the walls were painted by my mum. Just thought i’ll add that in..haha).

Hi Horizon, here’s the best way I can describe getting to this place. ( Tried putting it on google maps, but it looks pretty complicated).

If you are coming from KL, go towards Section 16. At the section 16 traffic light, go straight you will be heading towards Eastin PJ. Drive past Eastin and turn left before the BHP Petrol station.

Mix cafe is directly opposite the area where you take your parking ticket. So look straight when you take your parking ticket and you won’t miss this shop ..=)

    I hope this helps.
