Kee Hiong Bak Kut Teh, a new establishment in Sunway Mentari, has its roots spanning from the origin of Bak Kut Teh, Klang. We met up with one of the owners who had mentioned that he was one of the descendants of the founder of the original Bak Kut Teh, Lee Boon Teh. In the good old days, a serving of bak kut teh in the morning would keep the workers who visit the original store full of energy to last throughout the day.

In this shop, however, there is a touch of many modern aspects. From the sake glasses that are used in replacement of tea cups to the induction heaters warming up the kettles for hot water.

But of course, you would be interested to find out more about the food?

They serve a range of meats here such as the Tai Gwaat as above. The large serving overwhelms the small bowl that it is in, and is good for a one portion serving.

The soup is thick and flavourful and has a slight sweetness that adds to the aroma of herbs. They have about 9 different single portion servings that allow you to try a variety of meats.

My favourite that I usually go for is the Pai Gwaat. Immersed in a thick broth, the meat slid off the bone with ease and was very satisfying.

To keep the dishes warm, they also provide a gel at the bottom of the bowl to keep it warm. After all, you are enjoying a bowl of bak kut teh in a air-conditioned restaurant, so it’s best if the meal stays warm. That was one of the things I liked about this place. You can get a nice serving of bak kut teh in the comfort of a clean and quiet environment. As we went on the weekend, it was very easy to find parking as well.

Besides the individual servings, they also offer claypot style bak kut teh,

as well as the dry version which had a nice kick to it.

As always, with most bak kut teh shops (and the guilt of indulging in all lots of meat), you can also order a plate of lettuce to go with the meal.

I enjoyed a sumptuous meal, and it didn’t have to end there. They also sell the herbs for preparation at home; in which they use premium quality herbs from China.
