Kedai Makanan Raju – Roti Chanai

Looking for a place to dig in for roti chanai early in the morning, or a heavy portion of banana leaf rice during lunch? Well, Raju serves up some delicious roti chanais which I have frequented quite often.

Located near La Salle School and close to the forest reserve, it is a good stop after a mornings walk in the surrounding areas, or if you just happen to be around the neighbourhood. In the early morning, you can see people who are having breakfast before heading to work as well as those who have just finished their walks ( after a long walk, there is much less guilt from indulging in this sort of breakfast).

As you sit down, one of the many waiters will take your order and place an empty banana leaf in front of you. In the afternoon, they serve banana leaf rice with an assortment of meats and other deep-fried goodies.

For breakfast, this is what we had. Simple and easy. Roti chanai with a nice hot cup of teh tarik. What a way to start the day. You can eat with your hands or if you prefer you can also request for a fork and spoon.

After a satisfying meal, we got the bill and head inside the restaurant where we had to make the payment and came across this sign (with good food, people will come):

I find that Raju’s banana leaf rice is overpriced for the quality they serve, no matter how hoity toity they get about it :P and service kinda blows there, although that being said, Nirwana’s in Bangsar holds the trophy for most awful service.

I like Chaat Masala in Brickfields (vegetarian, also does a greaaaat murtabak), and Kanna’s curry house (fried chicken, onions and squid — also like their curries); Also Kavitha’s curry house (good salted fish curry, sambal petai).

As for Raju’s, I’ll always go because my friends live near it, it’s convenient, and people know it. But I still think it’s overpriced and not as good as their competitors. Jatuh standard dy.

Hmm, yea sometimes when their business is good, they tend to take things for granted cause it gets to their head. I understand where you are coming from :) .

But I must admit, its a nice environment there especially in the early mornings when the air is still fresh and cool, and you sit under the trees eating your roti on banana leaf.

My favourite of all is still Kanna Curry house, they also serve a mean salt fish curry and their crab curry is to die for..LoL

Been coming here for years. Live in the US, but always make a stop at Raju’s while I’m in Malaysia!
