We were recently invited to a food tasting session by Lecka Lecka to try out some dishes at their Starhill Gallery outlet. Now the first thing that came to mind was, ‘Hmm… are we going to be eating only ice cream for dinner?’.
But unknown to most people, the Lecka Lecka outlet on Jalan Bukit Bintang doesn’t only serve delicious Gelato, it also does a wide variety of food including pizzas, pastas and risotto.
Rajesh, the General Manager of Lecka Lecka was there to share the meal with us and we left the ordering to him… and boy did he order a lot.
First up, a round of drinks bartender! Lecka Lecka has a large selection of cocktails, mocktails, wines and spirits for people to enjoy during dinner or while having an Egyptian Shisha on the sofas.
Clockwise from top left we have the Lecka Cooler (Cranberry, Orange, Lime and Mint), The Pink Punk (Strawberries, Pineapple and Grenadine Syrup), Raspberries Caipiroska (Absolut Kurant, Raspberries muddled, Fresh Limes and Sugar) and a Caipirinha (Rum, Ice, Fresh Lim and Sugar)
Starters
Vegetarian Samosas – Made from their homemade vegetarian filling, crispy outer crust and served with a chilli and mint yoghurt sauce.
Mushroom Cartoccio – The mushrooms are cooked in a packet made of tin foil, trapping the heat and flavours inside till it arrives on your table. A simple sauté mushroom starter with fresh herbs.
Fish Tikka – Fresh and tender Dory Fish grilled with Spices and served with Pita bread, pickled vegetables and a spicy sauce. We really liked how fresh, tender and savoury the fish was.
Main Meals
Pizza – We had a half and half pizza, one half a simple but tasty Margherita (Tomatoes, fresh herbs and mozarella cheese) but by far our favourite was the Moroccan Lamb pizza. The little bits of minced lamb had a nice roasted, herbal and savoury taste.
Also, the pizza was served on a crispy thin crust base, which I think how all pizzas should be served.
Vegetarian Risotto – The vegetarian risotto was nice and creamy. Its not often you find risotto in KL, let alone good risotto. Together with the mixed Mediterranean vegetables such as zucchini, eggplant, mushrooms and various others, this combination makes wonderful comfort food.
Linguine Seafood (Marinara) – With a variety of seafood including mussels, tiger prawns, squid, clams and fish, this seafood marinara had a light taste that you don’t get if the sauce is not made from fresh ingredients.
Desserts
Lecka Lecka is best known for its wide variety of Gelato, made from the freshest ingredients. Rajesh was telling us how at latest the Gelato in their outlets is re-made to order once in every 5 days, with some flavours even more frequently.
To ensure that their quality is of the highest standard, they use the best ingredients in their recipes, which they ship in from overseas and cook to make their Gelato, right here in Malaysia.
He then went on to give us a spoon of Gelato to taste. From EVERY single flavour you see in the picture on the left.
I’ve never tasted so many flavours at one go before in my life.
My personal favourites were the Green Apple and the Chocolate flavours.
As if 20 plus spoonfuls of Gelato was not enough, we also sat down for a serving each of Banana Crumble (top) and their Tiramisu (bottom) to finish off the night.
For those of you who thought that Lecka Lecka only served Gelato, you’d mostly be right. But at their Starhill Gallery outlet, they’re giving the restaurant business a go. And they’re doing a pretty good job of it.
