Recently, Feedmelah.com! were asked to invite food bloggers to Equatorial’s Double Indulgence Mooncake tasting session at the Golden Phoenix Restaurant.

The restaurant has a tastefully designed interior in a cream, sunny yellow and rustic earth tones. The mellow lighting inside is inviting and has a spacious dining area that can accommodate up to 400 diners.

We were here for their mooncakes and what a treat we were in store for.

The Welcome Crew!

Each set of mooncakes comes in a beautifully decorated box. The designs are created in house and some may even want to buy the mooncakes just for the boxes themselves.

With the theme Double Indulgence, they offer two categories of mooncakes: Classic and their all-new contemporary flavours such as Pumpkin Taro and German Black Forest.

In addition to the mooncakes, they have puff pastry ingots with lotus paste.

We weren’t just here for the mooncakes as we got to sample some of the dishes available at the Golden Phoenix Restaurant. After some welcome speeches from Mr. Balam, the Director of Business Development and our very own William, Master Chef Ng gave us a short description of what was in store for us.

To start things off, we each were served a piping hot bowl of Ginseng Chicken Soup and Fook Lou Chou Fan. I particularly enjoyed the Ginseng Chicken Soup which had been cooked for many hours. The flavours of the chicken, herbs, and ginseng had clearly infused into the soup.

After starting off the meal, the bloggers were in for a surprise treat, a La Mien Demonstration and Competition.

After many pulls and wows from the crowd, the noodles clearly emerged from what seemed to be an easy feat, until the contestants came up to try it themselves.

The La Mien demonstration seemed easy enough, just knead the noodle base, and pull. Three lucky contestants made their way to the front of the room to give it a go.

I guess it wasn’t quite as easy as it looked, but everyone had a great time. Getting the strength of the pull and timing was essential. There were screams of encouragement from the crowd, and eventually, the noodles did take shape. Can you guess where they made the noodles from this Spicy Eggplant La Mien?

Together with the La Mien was a sumptuous Scallop with Mango and vegetable dish. I have to say that the scallops that we had were extra large!

We still had to make room for dessert at the end of the day, which was quite difficult for some after such a big feast. Of course, as food bloggers, we have a second stomach saved just for dessert. This is a very cooling dessert. A coconut drink served with gui ling gao (herbal jelly).

The next dessert would appeal to many Malaysians and this Durian Pancake melts in your mouth. Absolutely delicious and one of the highlights of the day for me. The soft pastry instantly melts in your mouth and the durian mixture is creamy and smooth.

P8071016

All in all, it was a great event and we have to thank the organisers and the hotel for putting on a successful event!

Yo William looks good on stage! Too bad I couldn’t make it… would love to try the noodle-puliing activity. :)
