Fong Lye is a Taiwanese restaurant that is both in Desa Sri Hartamas and here in The Gardens, Mid Valley City.

To start things off, we had the Taiwan deep fried chicken. This is definitely a dish to share with lots of little pieces of deep fried chicken. The meat is rather tender and with a light crispy coating, we started the meal munching away.

It’s not a hot dog if that is what you are seeing. What it is, is the “Taiwan style glutinous rice wrap-up sausage”. As the name suggests, they are not using bread, but rather glutinous rice (which would of course make it quite hard to hold up and eat). An interesting starter this meat-floss as a substitute for mustard sauce that you would find on the Western style hot dogs. It was an interesting twist to a popular snack.

A classic dish that you would find in a majority of Taiwanese restaurants is this Taiwan Braised Beef Noodle. The slices of beef are soft and tender, cooked in a slightly spicy clear beef broth, it is also served with side dishes.

For dessert, they have a variety of snow mountains that have different toppings as well as this one, the Peanut Snow Mountain. It literally tastes like you’re eating peanut butter, except that it’s icey cold and drizzled with some condensed milk. All in all, a good way to end the meal.

Steve, they have a small outlet along Jln Imbi, a few doors from Overseas Restaurant. Fridays and weekends require booking in advance.Tables here are traditional round ones and diners are family with the more elderly unlike the Garden’s with mostly youngsters. Try their seafood combo for say 3 persons and above.
Cheers,
Uncle SG
