Email Interview with Neko Hime Blogs

This week we have the pleasure of introducing another fantastic blog, neko hime blogs. Hope you enjoy this week’s email interview!

3262095795_bb113de6c21. Can you give us an introduction of yourself, when and how did you start out and what made you love food so much to start a blog about it?

I started the blog in 2006 I think but was not blogging about food that time. I thought I could use the blog to blog about daily things but it didn’t work out. I stumbled upon some food blogs then and decided, hey why not I try this and since then I never look back. I love eating (but hate to put on weight) and with my friend Mashi, we actually go and try different restaurants in town, expensive, cheap, porky or not porky and my taste buds have since improved from what I used to know. I also loved taking photos and find that if I take really nice food photos, they are like a work of art on their own. Blogging also help me improve my camera skills I must say besides food I take a lot of other pictures. Needless to say going on tour with me is a pain in my parents eye at times*hehehe*. I have to say I have gone far and wide to eat things I have never dream of 2 or 3 years ago. However my blog is sometimes a bit mixed – you see j drama updates or pictures of my puppies updated….

2. Your site has been up and running for several years now. What do you believe is the key contributor of the success of your site?

Not really sure though… I guess the pictures and I try to be myself in the blog. Plus I try not to diss a restaurant they may be good or bad in different people’s opinion and keep it neutral.

3. What is your favourite food of all time?

Tough question…. I don’t have a personal favorite but I think Ipoh Curry Laksa (with siew yoke)  Char Koay Teow and I love Izakaya styled food that I had in Japan would be categorized as my favorites. However, it is hard to pick a favorite when there are so much yummy food in the world.

4. What is your favourite restaurant of all time?

I don’t have any actually. I find my favorites normally degrade in quality due to change of cook but if there is one that I think is consistent is Tuck Kee in Ipoh. Best siew yoke and dishes I have known so far.

5. Currently, what is the one tip about food blogging you would give to new food bloggers?

Find your own style in writing and a good camera helps sometimes *winks* I used to have parents that thought it was weird to take pictures but over the 2 years they are and have been quite encouraging towards my hobby and even they sometimes help me pose the food and add comments and their review. And food reviews should not be just limited to nice fancy restaurants but side stalls and all are a good place to start.

6. What do you think about the food culture we currently have in Malaysia?

I am not too keen on the mushrooming of koptiams. (Despite my dad being a fan) but I find that the real koptiam food is in this ones that is not commercialized. Good kaya bread is still found in Ipoh and real Ipoh kopi is in Ipoh. I also find that franchised food in Malaysia lacks quality and I wished that at least they keep the QC up, however if you want to compare the food scene 10 years ago and now, I think now is still much better – we have so much opportunities to eat Italian, Japanese and other food from around the world.
