Email Interview With Cumi & Ciki

Continuing our series of interviews with fellow food bloggers, this week we had the chance to interview the two running food bloggers over at Cumi & Ciki.

1) Can you give us an introduction of yourself, when and how did you start out and what made you love food so much to start a blog about it?

It all started out a couple of years back as a means to diary our travels and related photos. However, because we enjoy eating so much (as do other Malaysians) the blog soon took on the form of a food blog…

Cumi & Ciki is a Malaysian food, travel blog, that also tells of our worldly adventures! The name is derived from a popular educational television puppet show for Malaysian children in the 70s and 80s. This is the tale of the two travelling, eating, thrill-seeking monkeys from KL.

2) Just like backStreetgluttons.com, your site has been up for a long time and has gained quite a following. What do you think is the key factor to your success?

Enjoy what you do, or else , don’t do it! Have passion. Cultivate a sense of curiosity about the world. Be persistant!

3) What is your favourite food of all time?

We cannot say for sure. We like everything and anything good. However, Malaysian food is still the best – there is no place like home!

4) What is your favourite restaurant of all time?

Again, we cannot say for sure. Too many!

5) Currently, what is the one tip about food blogging you would give to new
food bloggers?

Basically, the question is about, how to be a real Foodie… so,

1. Be curious. The only way to know if you like worms is to try/eat worms. Don’t try, don’t know. The only way to know if one curry is better than another is to try BOTH!

2.Experiment. Once in a while, make it a point to eat at some place you would not normally go.

3. Know your likes and dislikes – no body wants to read a food blog which does not give a clear cut opinion on whether the food is good or not, and why. Don’t be wishy-washy!

4. Support local produce! This is after all our country and we are Malaysians

5. Give praise to those who can cook and cook well – it takes talent and a lot of effort, so give credit where credit is due! (This includes, chefs, friends and family members who can cook well!)

6. Treat yourself whenever you can – life is too short! Take time out from your hectic schedule to enjoy that cake, nasi lemak or chapati!

6) What do you think about the food culture we currently have in Malaysia?

Still room to grow, although people are becoming increasingly curious about food, and more willing to experiment, than say, 5 years ago.

7) Your final thoughts about food you’d like to share with the Feedmelah.com readers?

Eat well, eat healthy … but occasionally, eat the ‘weird stuff’ too! Life is short, so one should enjoy all things, in moderation. Also, when you travel, try to eat where the LOCALS eat, hygiene permitting. Don’t just stick to hotels and fast-foods because you will miss out on the true local gems!

End of interview.
