Still want to know more about the food blogging community? Well not to worry, we’ve got you covered!
This week, we’ve got the pleasure of welcoming Babe_KL from Babe in the City – KL which is run by husband and wife team of Babe_KL herself and her hubby, Capt’n Hook.
1. Can you give us an introduction of yourself, when and how did you start out and what made you love food so much to start a blog about it?
I started out reading blogs way back in 2004. Back then there isn’t that many interesting blogs in Malaysia and most of them blogged about their social life, technical stuff and all. The majority of food bloggers then resides in the West and Singapore. It was one of the food blog (now defunct) that inspired me to start my own blog. At that time I have no intention to blog solely on food but I’ve no idea when Babe in the City – KL suddenly became one hahaha…
I was told many times that Babe in the City – KL is the pioneer food blog in Malaysia but seriously, I’ve no idea and I would loved to know if it’s real too. My earlier posts were pretty bad. It was basically stuff of what I ate and the photography was terrible. As time goes by, I was not only reviewing what I ate, I started to blog about the food I cooked and baked. My original intention of blogging about the food I cooked was my posts are basically for me to archive what I’ve cooked. It’s very handy for me to search the recipes this way rather than flipping through my piles of printouts and books.
My hubby, Capt’n Hook joined Babe in the City – KL as the co-blogger in late last year. I’m the one doing the writing mostly but he contributed his time and money, spending me makan! It pays to have a husband who have all the cravings, otherwise I won’t be going places on my own. Anyway, he’s the biggest critic so it made sense to drag him into the water. He represented Babe in the City – KL in Brand’s Blogger Challenge in Singapore last December and had a blast there.
2. Your site has been up for a while and has started to gain quite a following. What do you think is the key factor to your success?
I supposed being one of the pioneer food blog helps plus who doesn’t like food, especially when you’re Malaysian. There were a lot of curious readers initially, some became faithful readers and some were inspired by my blog who in turn started out food blogging.
3. What is your favourite food of all time?
Our national favourite – nasi lemak. Can’t explain, I guess it’s a Malaysian thing!
4. What is your favourite restaurant of all time?
I don’t really have a favourite especially now as there are so many new restaurants and eating places for me to sample.
5. What blog writing/photo taking tip would you give aspiring food bloggers?
Write for yourself and not to write to pleased others. Be sincere and honest with what you write but most importantly, don’t make it as a habit to treat every eating session as “work” (i.e. take photos, jotting down notes etc). Just enjoy and have fun.
6. What do you think about the food culture we currently have in Malaysia?
Not very healthy. A lot of our root’s food are fast disappearing. The saddest being hiring foreign workers to do all the work. The taste that I’ve developed since I was a child isn’t there anymore!
The same goes to the cafe and kopitiam fads that are now mushrooming… yeah very popular but seriously the franchise owner need to have their food quality and service checked every now and then at each outlets.
7. Your final thoughts about food you’d like to share with the Feedmelah.com readers?
Food proprietors should ensure their service, food quality and cleanliness are consistently good all the time. It doesn’t pay for patrons to sing praises one day but turned total opposite on another.
As for the readers, thanks for coming by Babe in the City – KL and linking it as well without asking. I am grateful with all the comments left and not forgetting to mention the emails complimenting my blog or posts or asking where to eat.
Thank you so much to Feedmelah.com for conducting this interviewing.
Thanks Babe_KL for the interview! It was our pleasure.
