Stumbled upon this place while doing some shopping in Tropicana city mall. We were looking for somewhere reasonable to eat, and something simple and easy to eat. Most of the restaurants in the mall are abit on the pricey side, so we were quite happy when we found this place. I think they opened not long ago as it wasn’t there the last time I was a the mall.
They have set lunch menus available and also a variety of nyonya kuih. Plus they have a 30% discount off the kuih after 6pm, making it a pit stop for pre-dinner munchies.
We were greeted with a nice basket of keropok, which was we gobbled up almost immediately. I thought this was complimentary, but when the receipt came, we found we were charged for it. Sigh.
First up is the popiah. It was not bad.It had some deep fried shallots thrown into it, hence providing it an extra crunchy texture. Something like what the popiah sisters do, but just with a different twist.
We took the beef rendang set lunch. Which was pretty good value for money. It comes with rice, acar and rice. On top of that, it also came with a drink and dessert. The rendang was surprisingly tender and fragrant and it came out hot. Some places have the food lying out for too long in the day that when they serve it to you, its cold. But this one was nice and hot.
They served us tong sui for dessert. I forgot the actual name for it, but it was barley, sago all boiled together with santan. Very very yummy. I would be coming back here for the tong sui. The other set lunch menus were the ayam curry kapitan and also the ikan tengiri.
