Brunch at Jarrod & Rawlins – Sri Hartamas

A little while back, a few of us decided to meet up for brunch, rather than for our normal dinner outings. This week, we headed to the Jarrod & Rawlins branch in Sri Hartamas.

To start things off, we begin with one of the weekend specials which is available from 10am till 3pm. The J&R’s Eggs Benedict “Indulgence” (RM28)  is comprised of two soft poached organic eggs with a choice of bacon, smoked salmon or ham on a slice of toast. This is then topped off with Hollandaise Sauce which is an emulsion of egg yolks, butter and lemon juice. Definitely, something not on the typical Malaysian breakfast menu. Accompanying the toast is a glass of orange juice and either coffee or tea.

This was what I had for breakfast. A Portabello Mushroom Burger (RM18) with extra toppings of none other than bacon (RM3). The gourmet burgers are available with beef, pork, chicken or lamb which J&R uses fresh meat patties. The standard burger is served with fried, salad, cornichons (pickled mini cucumbers which resemble gerkhins) and caramelised onion relish. The large portabello mushroom was very tender and juicy and was complemented well with the added saltyness from the bacon.

Besides bacon, J&R also has other extra toppings like blue cheese, egg, semi sun-dried tomatoes and ham.

My brother had the Spicy Chicken Pita with Rocket & Yoghurt which was served with a side of salad. As you can see, knife and fork ready to dig in to an appetizing meal. The cold filling of spicy chicken, yoghurt and rocket was an interesting combination. With the toasted pita bread, it was warm, spicy and cold at the same time.

This is the other weekend special which is only available on Saturdays and Sundays; J&R’s Eggs Florentine. Instead of using chicken eggs, J&R uses an organic duck egg which is soft poached and layed on a bed of spinach. This is placed on a roast potato and topped off with Hollandaise sauce. As with the weekend specials, it comes with a glass of orange juice and a cup of coffee or tea. For those who like a big breakfast, the serving size was rather small as the meal itself barely took up much space on the large plate, however, the richness of the egg was apparently rather filling. This meal is very much like Eggs Benedict, just with the substitution of ham with spinach.

The J&R wrap here is with chicken, cottage cheese, egg, and avacado spread hidden within the tortilla. It also comes with a side of salad like the one served with the Spicy Chicken Pita. Also, an interesting mix of flavours, J&R uses fresh ingredients wrapped up in a roll.

I can’t imagine how would it taste like when chicken combines with Yoghurt . Don’t think I would be that adventurous to try it out. Would want to visit this place one day. :)
