Peranakan Place – Nyonya Cuisine in 1 Utama
[1 Utama]
Peranakan (Baba-Nyonya) are used to describe descendants from Chinese immigrants in the 15th and 16th century to the Nusantara region during the Colonial era. From the Malay influence, a unique blend of flavours emerged resulting in Nyonya cuisine that fully utilises the variety of Malay spices.
Peranakan Place is a simple Nyonya restaurant that serves Nyonya food at a reasonable price. For starters, why not try their “Pai Tee” or Top Hats, which has a crisp bite and sweetness that is found from the turnips.

The Devils Curry Chicken has its roots from Portugese settlers who invaded the settlement of Malacca in the 15th century.

The Honey Sotong is one of their signature dishes. It is deep fried sotong in a batter that has been covered with honey sauce.

Here’s a look at the cendol which we just could not resist.

the real nyonya style doesn’t taste like what i had in 1utama when i recently visited that place. there’s something still missing. some ingredients is missing. i can’t tell what. i’m sure the owner is doing something about it. i will re-visit it some time soon for my special cendol. can seem to let it go. better then what i taste from other places.
