Choong Kee (Kampar) Claypot Chicken Rice, Damansara Jaya

[Damansara Jaya]

Choong Kee Claypot Chicken Rice-0901 After driving past this place numerous times and seeing the long queue of people outside, we knew that there must be something special here. So being foodies as we were, we decided to dine there and see for ourselves.

We were lucky enough to get a seat that day as it was the weekend dinner rush. It was packed and some people even left after seeing the crowd. The restaurant is very clean and brightly lighted and surprisingly cooling. Maybe cause they had about 6 fans inside.

The menu of this restaurant is simple and straight forward. It was basically a laminated A4 paper. For fickled minded diners who just can’t decide on what to have, fret not as the only main meal on the menu is Claypot Chicken Rice. The only hard decision you have to make is whether you want it with salted fish, chinese sausage or more chicken. Not that hard of a decision to make. You can also order a side of vegetables and steamed soup.

After waiting for about 20 mins, yes, we did wait for some time, our food finally arrived. Generous amount of chicken and also ham yui ( salted fish ), the smell was great! We came here thinking that this will be just another normal claypot chicken rice dish, but after mixing it and eating it, we were quite surprised because it was really tasty. Like really really tasty. I think its the sauce and maybe the salted fish. The rice was also very soft not like some claypot rice where its abit hard and lumps together. We ordered 2 big claypots for the 4 of us, and we finished ALL.

We also ordered a side of vegetables. Remember to always have greens with your meal for that added fiber..:) The dish was quite average with the vegetables being quite fresh. We also ordered one lotus root steamed soup. But this was so –so . The soup wasn’t tasty enough, maybe because the rice was so tasty that it just stole the limelight from the rest of the dishes..haha.

All in all, good place to come. But, be prepared to wait. Another alternative is to call in advance and place your order as thats what we saw some tables doing, or even better, call and take away. Drive by 20 mins later pick up your rice and dine in the comforts of your own home.
