Hatyai Street – Thai Food at One Bangsar
[Bangsar]
I was quite pleased when I got the chance to try this interesting little restaurant which was recommended by a friend. Hatyai Street serves a variety of Thai food and is along a row of restaurants that could be associated with more pricely items on the menu, however, there are a few dishes that are averagely priced too.

The ambience is laid back and the Thai newspaper cuttings under the glass table-tops give you something to read (if you can read Thai) while you wait for the food. Instead of the normal canned drinks, we decided to give their lemongrass juice drink a try which was light and refreshing.

For starters, we had the Thai Mango Kerabu with Salted Egg (RM12). This tasty salad was tossed with crispy fried shrimp, bits of mango, salted egg and cashews nuts. The salad complimented the other dishes well as it had a slight sourness that went well with the salty eggs.

The fish cakes here in the style like otak-otak was very appetizing. Wrapped up in leaves and garnished, the fish cakes were a good choice for starters as it was not too salty and had a nice blend of flavours.

The braised pork trotters were done similar to a Chinese style of cooking trotters. The tender pieces of braised pork consisted mainly of the fatty portions so it would be recommended for those who love the eating the sinful fats, tasty nonetheless.

The Glutinous Rice with Durian was rather sweet and the durian flavours were overwhelming. Definitely a dish for durian lovers as the flavours were infused in the glutinous rice and soupy mixture.
