Homemade Batik Cake Recipe–So easy!
By Sue Ann at April 28, 2010 | 8:00 am | 1 Comments
I grew up with my aunty making me this cake. It is one of my favourite’s and its just soo easy to make. There’s NO baking involved and is basically mixing the ingredients together and putting it in the fridge while it sets.Though i admit this is not the healthiest piece of cake to eat, but hey, indulging once in won’t do too much harm right? Anyway, this cake is perfect for a last minute dessert for your dinner party or if you are just in need of a quick sweet fix. ( You can eat the batter if you can’t wait for it to set ;) Ingredients 250g of...
Akane – Modern Japanese Restaurant at Sri Hartamas
By Steve at April 25, 2010 | 12:59 am | 0 Comment
As we were driving by lunch one day, we decided to drop by Akane to fulfill our Japanese food craving (seem to have Japanese food cravings quite a lot). Note to all, this is not your typical Japanese restaurant that serves the conventional sushi rolls and such. This is modern Japanese fare. The menu was extensive and flipping through the pages were intriguing with how many different sorts of food you can fit into a menu. Finally, after much time and debate, we decided on two dishes for lunch: their creamy Mentaiko pasta (spicy cod roe pasta) and their...
Kuan Yin Vegetarian Restaurant, Section 17, Petaling Jaya
By Sue Ann at April 21, 2010 | 8:00 am | 4 Comments
Some time back, we went for dinner with one of our old family friends who are vegetarians. Hence we ended up eating at this restaurant, Kuan Yin Vegetarian Restaurant on one rainy evening. That day this place was packed, in fact I think every day its pretty much packed as I realised there’s not many proper chinese vegetarian restaurants here in KL, unless i’m not looking hard enough. The only other vegetarian place I know is this other place in Damansara Uptown ( can’t recall the name). First dish out was this deep fried mushrooms in oatmeal. This is the...
FT: Opus Bistro, Jalan Bangkung Bangsar
By Steve at April 18, 2010 | 12:39 am | 0 Comment
Away from the hustle and bustle of the busy part of Bangsar, tucked away in a little street called Jalan Bangkung lies Opus Bistro. This trendy modern restaurant is amongst a row of other eateries along this very same stretch. We had the privilege to dine at this establishment in our ever continuing search for more of Kuala Lumpur's fine foods. Besides the extensive menu that is available, there are other monthly specials that are on offer as well as set lunches to cater to the office crowds. I have to say that you get a very warm feeling when you dine here, so it's...
Craft Brews Brewhouse & Restaurant, Mutiara Damansara
By Sue Ann at April 14, 2010 | 7:00 am | 0 Comment
Recently visited this place in Mutiara Damansara, opposite the petrol station beside court’s mammoth. It had a very chic design, with the interior looking like part of a brewery with pipes sticking out of the wall. Very big and bright as well thanks to the ceiling to wall windows. We were pleasantly surprised when they treated us with a complimentary cup of tomato soup while waiting for our meals to come. Not often we get served in soup cups in KL, so this was something new. Our first dish was the craft brew’s pasta which is actually Fettuccini...
Nyonya Restaurant in SS2
By Steve at April 11, 2010 | 12:49 am | 0 Comment
Nyonya Restaurant is one of the oldest Nyonya restaurant in the Klang Valley and since 1974, they have continually maintained the standard that has shown through their regular customer base that keeps returning for more. This is the Udang Fried Assam Koh. Unfortunately, my allergies hindered me from trying what looked to be a delicious dish. Under the crisp fried outer skin of the prawns looked to be the sumptuous white meat of the prawns. The Kangkong Belacan was also quite tasty. Fresh ingredients are the key to a delicious dish! The Curry...
FT: The Salad Bar, Damansara Uptown
By Sue Ann at April 7, 2010 | 8:00 am | 0 Comment
The salad bar is the new cafe on the joint in Damansara Uptown. Just only 3 months old, the salad bar is a new breed of restaurants promoting healthy eating. This restaurant was started by 3 partners who realised that the Malaysian diet consisted of too much meat (we at FML can contest to that..haha) , and wanted to have a healthier alternative available. Hence the birth of ‘The salad bar’. And don’t get it wrong, this is not a wholly 100% vegetarian place, but it promotes a balance way of eating with more emphasis of fresh greens. Something to note when...
Ogawa Japanese Kitchen at Plaza Mont Kiara
By Steve at April 4, 2010 | 1:12 am | 0 Comment
Ogawa, no this is not a massage chair, it's a restaurant that is tucked in a little corner in Plaza Mont' Kiara. As we were scanning through the menu, this caught our eye, Maguro Misokatu. It is fried tuna served with special soya bean paste on top of a bed of salad. The crisp outer layer is fried to perfection with the soft tuna that is delightfully complimented by the sauce. The Zaru udon, a cold wheat noodle which has a dipping sauce and a quail egg is a simple dish that is tastefully done. This is one of the set menu items for the day, the...
