Zen BBQ – Korean BBQ at One Bangsar
By Steve at August 30, 2009 | 12:04 am | 3 Comments
I recently had the pleasure of dining with a few friends at this place suggested by my friend Wendy. Zen Korean BBQ is along the row of restaurants that have populated the Jalan Ara stretch more commonly known as One Bangsar. As you drive past, do try to look out for the sign of the restaurant as I did miss it (either the sign was smaller compared to the other establishments around it or I'm just abit blur). Peter Fish Head Curry in Setapak
By Steve at August 23, 2009 | 12:00 am | 0 Comment
If you happen to be around the area of Setapak, do look up this place if you fancy a nice big bowl of Chinese style curry fish head. My family and I visited this restaurant for lunch and it was very pleasing. [caption id="attachment_3838" align="aligncenter" width="400" caption="Kari Kepala Ikan Peter"][/caption] For starters, we ordered a plate of tofu and fried chicken wings. The wings were especially delicious and you could tell that they used fresh meat. The also provided dipping sauce for the chicken (sweet chili sauce). [caption id="attachment_3836"...
FT: Lecka Lecka, Starhill Gallery, Jalan Bukit Bintang
By William at August 20, 2009 | 10:00 am | 2 Comments
We were recently invited to a food tasting session by Lecka Lecka to try out some dishes at their Starhill Gallery outlet. Now the first thing that came to mind was, ‘Hmm… are we going to be eating only ice cream for dinner?’. But unknown to most people, the Lecka Lecka outlet on Jalan Bukit Bintang doesn’t only serve delicious Gelato, it also does a wide variety of food including pizzas, pastas and risotto. Rajesh, the General Manager of Lecka Lecka was there to share the meal with us and we left the ordering to him… and boy did he order a...
Otak- Otak Place, Tropicana City Mall, Petaling Jaya
By Sue Ann at August 18, 2009 | 12:00 pm | 3 Comments
After walking around Tropicana city, we decided to stop at the Otak – Otak Place for lunch. We were looking for something local, and reasonably price, hence we ended up here. We were welcomed into the restaurant with songs of the late Theresa Ting playing in the background and also a old video of P. Ramlee playing on the old tv set in front of the counter. For the 60s babies, I’m sure this place will bring back lots of memories. With walls lined with old soda bottles from the past, and even jars of ‘guli’ marble, plastic toy soldiers, the rubber...
Kedai Makanan Raju – Roti Chanai
By Steve at August 16, 2009 | 12:00 am | 3 Comments
Looking for a place to dig in for roti chanai early in the morning, or a heavy portion of banana leaf rice during lunch? Well, Raju serves up some delicious roti chanais which I have frequented quite often. [caption id="attachment_3832" align="aligncenter" width="400" caption="Kedai Makanan Raju"][/caption] Located near La Salle School and close to the forest reserve, it is a good stop after a mornings walk in the surrounding areas, or if you just happen to be around the neighbourhood. In the early morning, you can see people who are having breakfast before...
Waiting 45 Minutes For Food – And Still Loving It?
By William at August 11, 2009 | 10:00 am | 0 Comment
Malaysia is truly a unique place to live, work, grow and eat. When you drive to work, you can feel the aggression, anger and less than polite drivers on the road, honking, flashing and weaving in and out of traffic. At the office, there’s office politics, there’s tension between managers and staff, between managers and their bosses. Basically, there are plenty of opportunities for people to get frustrated, to get angry and more often than not, they do become angry, voice up and complain a little. But when it comes to famous food, it’s a different story...
Choong Kee (Kampar) Claypot Chicken Rice, Damansara Jaya
By Sue Ann at August 11, 2009 | 12:01 am | 6 Comments
After driving past this place numerous times and seeing the long queue of people outside, we knew that there must be something special here. So being foodies as we were, we decided to dine there and see for ourselves. We were lucky enough to get a seat that day as it was the weekend dinner rush. It was packed and some people even left after seeing the crowd. The restaurant is very clean and brightly lighted and surprisingly cooling. Maybe cause they had about 6 fans inside. The menu of this restaurant is simple and straight forward. It was basically a...
Bayernhaus – German Food at Capital Square

As the name suggests, Bayernhaus serves up German delights in an interesting atmosphere. Situated in Capital Square, if you happen to be around the area and have a craving for meat, meat and more meat, then this could be a place of interest for you. [caption id="attachment_3704" align="aligncenter" width="400" caption="Bayernhaus"][/caption] They have stacked up mini barrels in a little pyramid structure just next to the window. In this restaurant, you have the choice of sitting outside if it's a nice cool night or you can also have air-coniditioning within...
Gonbei, Japanese, Starhill Gallery, Kuala Lumpur
By Sue Ann at August 6, 2009 | 12:00 am | 5 Comments
We were treated to a feast at Gonbei Japanese restaurant not long ago and we certainly relished the whole experience. (Thanks YTL!) Gonbei is situated on the ‘Relish’ floor of Starhill Gallery, and you won’t miss it. The design of this restaurant is so unique, with the entrance made from bamboo which forms a bamboo tunnel leading into the restaurant. While you go in, the waiters will bang on the giant drum outside to inform the restaurant that the guests has arrived ( like VIP). They also inform them how many people are coming cause the number of times they...
