By at January 25, 2009 | 8:29 pm | 5 Comments

A few colleagues and myself recently decided to have a small early Chinese New Year celebration. This year, we decided to splurge and celebrate in style with a big Chinese New Year dinner at Restoran Oversea's branch in Jaya One. [caption id="attachment_1835" align="aligncenter" width="448" caption="Restoran Oversea"][/caption] This is the setting inside the restaurant. This branch of Restoran Oversea is located in the basement of Jaya One and can be accessed through the parking lot. The large area is well suited to host events, weddings and parties of different...

Mama Mia Restaurant & Bistro – PJ New Town, Petaling Jaya

By at January 22, 2009 | 4:00 pm | 2 Comments

Mama Mia? First thing that comes to mind (besides the musical) is Western or Italian cuisine. This is nothing of that sort though. Here at their restaurant, they serve Chinese cuisine which does not include pork on the menu. So for those who are looking for Chinese food without pork, you should give this place a try. It is located along the same row as Poh Kong. [caption id="attachment_1793" align="aligncenter" width="448" caption="Mama Mia"][/caption] The interior is well-decorated with a modern touch, and is a comfortable setting to bring friends...

Zuup Soup Bar, One Utama Shopping Centre

By at January 21, 2009 | 3:59 pm | 2 Comments

A quick lunch the other day brought us to this small cafe in 1 Utama shopping mall called Zuup Soup Bar. As their name suggests, their speciality is soup and lots of it. [caption id="attachment_1761" align="aligncenter" width="450" caption="Even their wall decoration was of soup. They really love their soup huh?"][/caption] Due to the weather in Malaysia, rich, hot creamy soups that are often made Western style are not all that popular. But I personally like Western style soups for their flavour and for a change to the herbal chinese soups I'm so used to...

Ribs, Oasis Complex, Bandar Utama

By at January 19, 2009 | 3:51 pm | 3 Comments

[caption id="attachment_1768" align="aligncenter" width="448" caption="I think they sell ribs."][/caption] A small group of us went to this restaurant on New Year's Eve 2008 for dinner. It will probably suprise you, but Ribs is located near the school opposite the One Utama driving range. Bet you didn't know there was a row of shop lots there right? Their speciality is ribs, just as their restaurant name would suggest and the shop is actually quite new, less than 1 year old. I first came to know about it through my cousin, as his friend owns and runs the...

Woo Pin Fish Head Noodles – Taman Danau Desa, Kuala Lumpur

By at January 18, 2009 | 12:07 am | 1 Comments

Woo Pin Fish Head Noodles in Taman Danau Desa is famous for none other than their fish head noodles. The original branch opened in Cheras, and the restaurant has also featured in newpapers. [caption id="attachment_1638" align="aligncenter" width="448" caption="The exterior of the shop"][/caption] Try to get to the restaurant earlier as it tends to get rather crowded. If you do get there late, you will probably have to wait for tables to be free. Besides the fish head, you can also opt for other ingredients such as fish paste and fish balls. [caption...

What Is A Food Blog?

By at January 16, 2009 | 4:00 pm | 6 Comments

A food blog, especially here in Malaysia, usually means an online demonstration on just how much one or more people can eat over a given period of time. Not only does it involve constant eating, it also involves figuring out where to eat and what to eat as multiple posts about the same food/ restaurant is avoided as much as possible. A food blog involves a personal critique of the restaurant that the food blogger (or flogger for short) is currently eating at, accompanied by carefully taken photography of the food in question. This encourages floggers to start...

Chocolate, The New Caviar?

By at January 15, 2009 | 4:00 pm | 1 Comments

With the major fluctuations of oil prices we’ve had the last few months, you can’t be blamed for thinking that one day, the price of oil will be so expensive that it’ll be unrealistic to use. But would you be surprised to hear that you can say the same for chocolate as well? [Flickr: Captcreate] [CNN]: "I think that in 20 years chocolate will be like caviar," says John Mason, executive director and founder of the Ghana-based Nature Conservation Research Council (NCRC). Could you survive a future without chocolate? Communities and the environment...
