Happy Halloween!
By William at October 31, 2008 | 3:30 pm | 0 Comment
When I was growing up in Dubai, Halloween was a big thing. Everyone would get on their fancy costumes (Brings to mind a Merlin outfit I used to have), grab a bucket and start making the rounds shouting 'Trick or Treat!' Most of the families would be into the Halloween spirit too and have little candies ready to give out to all the trick-o-treaters who came knocking on their doors. All in all, it was a fun night for all. In Malaysia we don't really do much during Halloween, as it's quite a Western thing. But one thing that everyone does associate with it are all...

By William at October 30, 2008 | 4:30 pm | 1 Comments
In the midst of the melamine scandal that has hit China’s dairy companies and seen thousands of children taken to hospital, people have been more cautious of where there food is sourced from and so they should be. The Singapore government has gone all out to reassure its people that they do not import any eggs from China after authorities found contaminated eggs in Hong Kong. SINGAPORE: The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) said Singapore does not import eggs from China. Most of the eggs available here come from accredited poultry farms in Malaysia,...

[caption id="attachment_515" align="aligncenter" width="448" caption="Limau-Limau cafe "][/caption] We stumbled upon this little cafe while wandering around Jonkers street looking for brunch. This quaint little cafe is nicely accomodated in the old shop houses lining the road. We were drawned to it because it had a very unique artsy feel . It had a bar with where they served everything from teas, fruit shakes to beer. Its walls were lined with aroma burners and little decorative arts for sale. [caption id="attachment_664" align="aligncenter" width="448" caption="A pint a day keeps the doctor away..."][/caption] Believe it or not, some new research has been done on a beer that fights cancer and heart disease. Although most students think about and drink beer while at university, this group of students at Rice University, Texas have come up with a beer that contains the anti cancer and anti heart disease fighting resveratrol, commonly found in wines. Their ‘Bio Beer’ will soon be entered into a national bio engineering contest but ironically,...

Neroteca, an Italian Restaurant in the Heart of Kuala Lumpur
By Steve at October 25, 2008 | 9:07 am | 5 Comments
I recently celebrated a friend's birthday at a small cosy restaurant tucked away in the busy heart of Kuala Lumpur. Located on Lorong Ceylon, in close proximity to Jalan Alor and Tengkat Tong Shin, Neroteca has a wide variety of dishes to choose from. For drinks, we decided to have a bottle of white wine. We went with a bottle of Arneis, which was a pleasant surprise as it turned out to be well-balanced and smooth. For starters, we decided to be healthy and go with a salad, the Neroteca salad. It consists of crutons, four cheeses, crispy smoked...

Waking Up Before 10.30AM = McDonalds!
By William at October 22, 2008 | 4:30 pm | 2 Comments
My youngest brother woke me up at the ungodly hour of 9.30am to send him to his friend’s house in Shah Alam the other day. Seeing as I had watched a bit of football the night before, I was kind of zombified driving there and back. But… since I was up in time for breakfast, I thought, a freshly made roti canai would be great right about now. Problem was, it was the second day of Hari Raya, and mostly all the mamaks in that part of Shah Alam were closed. So guess where I ended up heading?
